To Friends and Readers of BagNews:
Since 2003, BagNews has stimulated a vital dialogue between the photojournalism community, academia, media watchers and the political blogosphere about the critical images of the day.
BagNews has been fearless in the pursuit of four goals: speaking truth to visual power; raising visual literacy; funding and presenting independent photojournalism; and creating a “go-to” destination for expert- and citizen-readers alike to understand visual politics and to read and decode visual spin.
This kind of effort doesn’t happen without resources.
We depend on reader support to maintain and expand this vital mission. We operate as a not-for-profit through our project partnership with Fractured Atlas, a major arts-support organization. As a result of that partnership, you are able to donate and receive a charitable tax donation for your contribution.
All funds donated to BagNews go toward operating expenses and photographer stipends. The former category consists of everything from bandwidth, software licenses, and contractor costs to developing customized features or services for the site. The bulk of all funding we receive, however, goes directly to photographer stipends to maintain year-round contributor relationships as well as provide modest payments for photography featured in BagNewsOriginals.
We urge you to help us support and expand our unique role as a think tank for visual politics, a “live classroom” for visual literacy, a visual media watchdog and a vigorous advocate for concerned photography.
Contributions can be made on-line via credit card at www.fracturedatlas.org/donate/1480 or you can send a check. Checks should be made payable to Fractured Atlas, with“BagNews Notes” in the memo line and sent to:
