Your Turn: Iraq War + 10 (Seizures Palace)

This coming Tuesday marks the tenth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. Per the caption below, this shot was taken in a bedroom of one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces about a month in. What are you reading?

    No bedside lamps, no WMD.

The museum in our town has up an exhibit of Duane Hanson’s sculpture. I couldn’t help seeing this photo from that perspective. A nameless model, frozen in time. We’re asked to explore our own reactions as well as the subject. For example, I think bks’s comment is both apt and clever. I wonder how I’d have reacted if the Hanson exhibit hadn’t just been installed.

In the example attached, the figure on the left is a self-portrait from 1979.

Like bks, my first thought was – stripped to it’s essentials – no WMD were found in this room. But, I also see the soldier as “tourist.”
