Kabul Dance

Hagel Afghanistan.png

• Embrace tiger, return to Afghanistan?

• Interesting contrast to Obama who runs all the time but looks svelte doing it.

• Does Hegel have the same issue as Jon Huntsman? Can’t play himself on TV.

• How’d they write that caption with a straight face?

As if Saturday’s, “Chuck Hagel, Man of Action” picture (below) wasn’t enough, the offering above tells me someone needs a “how to remember you’re being photographed at every minute” lesson….

Hagel Afghanistan Bagram

At the same time, what I can’t figure out is whether it’s Hagel or a lot of the dorkyness comes from being the face of a bloated Pentagon getting hammered by sequestration and deterioration in Afghanistan.

Cue 60s spy music.

It looks like he cannot wait to get out of there. Which is a good thing

  • Scarabus

In both photos, a guy is looking at his feet. What’s that about?

In the photo going up the stairs, I think it is it the yellow socks, or no socks, and the too-short sports pants, and in the photo exiting the chopper, could there be backwash from the blades? I thought that might have caused the two to bend forward as they ran.

  • LanceThruster

I’d describe it as flying up the stairs.

    • Scarabus

      Reminds me of Blues Brothers!

I think he is conscious of the cameras.. I think he’s being “spry” and nimble.. to avoid the perception of being too old. It really does come off as goofy, though. I love reading the pictures — but in this case, I’d prefer to know what the &$%# he’s saying and doing in his official capacity instead of how he looks in the midst of jetwash and copter blades.

… but I do have to say I love the comment: “Embrace tiger, return to Afghanistan?”

  • Cactus

There is something charmingly endearing in the photo of Hegel running up the steps. And at his age. Yes, I suppose those yellow socks contribute to the humor. Yellow socks? Really!?
