A brush with corporate worldliness similar in some ways to the pr shots from late last week, when he accepted delivery of the new Popemobile:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

What would a Mediterranean shepherd from a couple millennia past think of a small tablet that directly communicated thoughts from others no matter where they were on his great flat world — at the touch of a finger? ‘Course he’d have to wait for the development of solid state digital circuitry and the building out of infrastructure (all predicated on the development and refinement of written language and literacy). But in the end wouldn’t it look like some kind of magic?

And how long before he started taking it completely for granted?

Before he gets there some intermediate refinements and prototypes must be developed, one of these refinements expressed as images painted on the ceiling of a chapel.
