I Had a Sad Thought about TIME’s Reversible “Election Final” Cover

I had a sad thought about TIME’s reversible “election final” cover.

As a last word culminating an exhaustive and consuming multi-year process, what this cover suggests — especially with the notations in the center — is that Campaign ‘12 turned out to be more about the horserace; about data such as how much the SuperPACS raised and spent; and ultimately, about polling and about what Gallup and Nate Silver  had to say, more than any of the critical issues facing our nation.

…And, to the extent that’s true, the cover is brilliant.

…And, to the extent that’s true, the cover is brilliant.

If the Romney circle were .1% the size of the Obama circle it would be true. As drawn, the Time cover’s Venn diagram represents the view put forward by the commercial media, their alternative to reality. True ’cause they say so.

    Rmoney’s latest campaign appeal…

Homer: [melancholy] My campaign is a disaster, Moe. [angry] I hate the
public so much! [melancholy] If only they’d elect me. [angry] I’d
make ‘em pay! [melancholy] Aw, Moe, how do I make ‘em like me?
Moe: Eh, gee, you’re kind of all over the place, Homer, you need to focus
here. You gotta…think hard, and come up with a slogan that appeals
to all the lazy slobs out there.
Homer: [moans] Can’t someone else do it?
Moe: “Can’t someone else do it?”, that’s perfect!

Looking at this image again, I suddenly saw the two larger circles as gears, and the undecideds in the center being ground between them, one way or another.

Sam Wang points out that undecideds are not really relevant. More important is the class of voters that flip-flop between choices.

    Nov. 7:

    Unfortunate news for President Obama
and his handlers; Pelosi, Reid, Sharpton, etc…

    Romney wins in a Landslide!

The American public finally figured out
that Mr Obama was the worst President Ever
in the History of the United States of America.

Even Jimmy “That rabbit scared the crap outta me” Carter
had to admit that Obama was a much worse President
than even He aspired to be.
