Some Akin Photos a Little Closer to Home

On Mr. Huckabee’s radio program, Mr. Akin apologized for the wording of his comments, but he did not back away from his belief that abortion should be illegal in all instances, including pregnancies resulting from rape. — via G.O.P. Trying to Oust Akin From Race for Rape Remarks (NYT)

So Akin is saying that, even if their bodies didn’t magically protect them from becoming pregnant following a rape, he would still insist that his two daughters or his interns be forced to see through pregnancies conceived out of sexual assault?

What’s really incredible about this story, and the bellowing elephant in the room, is the fantasy and the denial on the part of these people. Totally erased from the equation is any emotional trauma, from the rape itself, from the immediate aftermath, from the next nine months, and for the lifetime of associating that child with that violence and violation. If this story speaks to anything, it’s how much radical pro-lifers worship — and expunge honest emotion — at the alter of repression.

Update 2:

If you saw his new ad this morning, it’s only logical Akin would finally drag his own daughters into this.

“As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them.”

Most telling is the way rape gets framed as a spiritual as opposed to a psychological matter, the redress and call to action having everything to do with vengeance while the treatment plan is relegated to prayer.

Top photo seems to indicate severe inbreeding, which explains a lot.

re: …his two daughters or his interns…

His two daughters? Certainly not. Undoubtedly they would spirit away for a quiet, below radar “solution.” Maybe a trip to the continent, or a vacation in Mexico. Not like folks of his stripe haven’t made that kind of me vs thee choice before. His interns might not be so lucky. He’d want them to be examples (and reinforcers) of his principles.

“As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them.”

George W Bush couldn’t have said it better. In fact, this sounds exactly like our smallest president. The Compassionate Conservative offers prayer as his contribution for the suffering of others, saves coin for more important matters, like country club dues.

“What’s really incredible about this story, and the bellowing elephant in the room, is the fantasy and the denial on the part of these people.”

You’re correct that what’s incredible is the elephant in the room and the denial about it, but you’re mistaken about what it is.

This has been going on for decades. Everyone to the left of Strom Thurmond has been ignoring it as if it wasn’t there. These people are the American Taliban, and will impose a patriarchal power structure over you and your wives and daughters if they get any more power at all.

The proper response is not to point and gawk. The proper response is to mock, ostracize, and oppose.

In fact, I’d have to say that it would be entirely appropriate to ask Akin if any of his children were conceived during sexual assault. After all, he wants to judge people along that axis, and he wants to be a Senator.

Akin has the same pose and expression in both photographs. In the casual family shot, there is no one standing in front of him and the people on his right hand side seem to be leaning away from him. His face shows that “lean and hungry look” that Shakespeare warned about. There’s a skull beneath the skin tightness about his face which smacks of rigidity.

Nail on the head in your first update. Totalitarian
governments (and people) cannot stand true emotion or passion — it’s too
dangerous; can get out of control. And they are afraid of their own emotions.
What they prefer is titillation and racy behavior. Thus, they want absolutely
no sex education in school, abstinence only, etc. But a full discussion of
rape, pregnancy and vaginal probes constantly in the media is perfectly
    acceptable. How bizarre!

The photo with the interns, notice they all have the perfect
little christian smiles. I’m sure they all graduated from Bob Jones or some

One wonders if these people actually think through the
consequences of their words. It may all sound just dandy to them in a sound
bite with followers nearby to reassure. But what happens when the rape baby
grows up and wants to know who their daddy is? So now we have two lives in
disarray. I met a woman at a party recently who had been raped and, 9 years
after the rape, she was still a mess and could hardly talk about it. I think
she would argue that it was definitely not a religious experience.

For the record, over 31,000 pregnancies result from rapes
every year. To that we must factor in that probably half of all rapes are not
reported because of the shame associated with it and the way they are
subsequently treated by the “justice” system.
