The United States of Ralph Lauren

If there’s any silver lining here, it’s that the uniforms designed for the Ralph Lauren Olympic team are so blatant, it’s hard not to interpret this handout image as anything but a screaming red (white and blue) light that America, Inc. has spiraled out of control. I mean, why is the horse on the lapel so small? And, taking corporate license this far, what stopped them from doing the horse and mallet guy on the flag, as well?

    How very upper class America looking.  I imagine this attire could be seen at any upscale yachting club.  Maybe swap out the headgear for something else…but the navy blazer and white slacks says summer-upper-crust to me.  Hamptons. F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Gin and tonics.  Sailboats.  Regattas.

    Oh, for crying out loud. Can we get past this? The uniforms are fine. Sure, it’d be nice if they were made in America, but in the end I don’t actually care where they were manufactured, as long as they weren’t stitched by starving orphans in chains.

    We’ve got bigger problems than this. I have a sneaking suspicion that much of the outrage is fueled by fears of the yellow horde – yet another jingoistic meme dragged out of somebody’s attic and dusted off to draw attention away from the new evidence just now made public regarding the non-existence of Mitt Romney’s moral compass.

      I think people can handle more than one issue at a time.

      And being made in China, it is possible they were made by orphans in chains.

    It DOES resemble Fitzgerald and regattas.  But the main objection I have is where does it say USA?  Couldn’t he have ’sacrificed’ the horse logo (sorry, Mitt) for the American flag and “USA”?  It is also, I think, a decidedly unathletic pose (and photo).
