Businessweek Cover: The Mormon Empire, Burger King and Romney the Almighty
If the BusinessWeek cover takes the edge off by way of humor and illustration, it doesn’t hold much else back. To the extent Romney and Bain Capital donated $2 million worth of Burger King stock to the Mormon Church, as emphasized in the article, this almost doubles as a “church and treasury” warning poster. Given the LDS “merger” of spiritual and financial omnipotence, the clear allusion here — with John the Baptist talking private equity — is to Romney as a deity-figure and the Empire’s guiding light.
