4th Of July, 2012 (and ‘63)

Because 4th of July is about nostalgia, Andy Griffith and the town of Mayberry become one of the iconic markers of same, and Griffith passed away yesterday, this Silver Screen archive photo (with little Ron Howard) seems as fitting as any to mark the day. Just be careful (because the culture’s dealing with a lot more fireworks these days).

    Seems somehow like it out to be B&W. Not sure when I first realized Ron Howard had (used to have) red hair. My first memory of Andy Griffith is the stand-up routine, “What it was, was football,” and No Time for Sergeants. Thanks. Very appropriate.

    Mount Prospect, Illinois, provided local media with a live demo that had not been planned when two little tin cans tipped over and sent firecrackers into the officials on hand:

    “Laura Barros, assistant executive director of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, suffered a small burn on her left foot.”
