The Audacity of Hoop

A – 100% Rust Belt. (Go Dayton!)

B – 100% Conservative

C – 100% Bipartisan

D – 100% Symmetry

E – 100% American. Apple pie for desert?

E – 100% Pure Beef

F – 100% Fan. Already turned in my brackets.

G – Santorum’s sweater? (Just joking.)

Call it one more smooth layup in the Campaign ‘12 optics battle.

Obama is exploiting a masterful number of political themes with his photo-ops, of late.  This scene is just so, well … American, the Prez traveling to Dayton, Ohio being a key 2012 battleground. Whereas FOX and the right lamely tries to resuscitate the idea of Obama as other (Muslim, foreign, etc.), Obama is settling in for March Madness, just an average Joe pulling up some couch for weeks of serious bball-watching complemented by the silly fun of the betting pool.  And then, we know how much Obama loves to cross-the-aisle. If he can’t get the Republicans to play ball, Cameron — As Sullivan points out –provides a great conservative symbol reinforcing the Presidential team’s emphasis on opening up the middle.

Romney, on the other hand?  He’d be up in the skybox with some pro-owner buddies and the Chamber of Commerce.

Nice. And the NBA has to appreciate the top-flight endorsement.

Despite the recent finding of the health risks of red meat (and particularly “processed” red meat), I’m still a big fan of a good hot dog. That being said, the dog British PM is shoving down his gullet looks about as off-color and unappetizing it can possibly be. What is it with sports arenas that they cannot offer a decent hot dog? Here in SoCal they make a big deal of the “Dodger Dog” (a Farmer John brand wiener), but its only notable attribute is that it’s long (12″).

That may be the first hot dog Cameron has ever confronted.  I’m not sure a bit was taken from it at the point this picture was taken, if ever.

I too found these images fascinating,,,but WHO are these people?

I’m guessing SOME of these folks are NSF or Secret Service personnel, the President doesn’t sit with the Prime Minister of the UK without security nearby…

Mr. White and Mr. Black in back of the President strike me as a bit uptight for the occasion, even if they are trying to look the part.  Even Ms. Dayton has a certain look about her that reminds me of someone doing their job…

How much of this is intended optics and designed to blend in with the crowd is something we will never know.

The man with the beard is secret service and is seen with President Obama on a regular basis.  I assume the gentleman next to him is as well considering the dress style

There are so many things I like about Obama, just as a person.  He loves his wife, he adores his kids, he’s a rabid sports fan.  And have you ever watched him hold a baby?  How can the right wing hate him personally so much?

  • Gasho

Compared to the morons who are currently dancing around the country outdoing themselves to say the stupidest possible thing with the most enthusiasm while smearing mud on each other this does come off as quite a photo op.

Obama is a regular hot dog eatin’ guy, watching the game from the good seats (but not separated from the regular folks) while simultaneously hosting a high level diplomat and ally with whom discussions of war and peace are ongoing.

Sort of an aside, but if I was the photographer of pic #1, I’d feel pretty satisfied I’d captured the classic referee shot.

If given a choice, I would have opted for bangers and mash.

The British are no strangers to unhealthy processed sausages. I’m sure he’s not surprised.
