A Unique Angle on the Gingrich Follicles As They Slowly Slip Away – Photo by Jason Andrew

Jason Andrew’s photo of Newt and Callista in South Carolina spoke to us for a number of reasons. First of all, with Newt’s quixotic campaign apparently taking a haircut in the crucial Florida primary, we could say this scene (note the moving truck) shows the couple literally slipping away.

And then, like a baby bird and the alpha bird, there is the presentation of the Newt-Callista, or Callista-Newt, as the single inseparable organism they presented from day one.

Most prominently, however, Jason scales the couple to their signature element(s), characterized by the prodigious and snowy coiffure’s each possess. More specifically, the photo offers a wonderful depiction of the campaign’s central operating unit, a view that not only trumps, but transcends “the famous swoop.”  Of course, whereas the cynical among you might only see the white circle enveloping Callista’s summit as a pin cushion; the reverse side of Star Wars storm trooper helmet, or simply the perfect void, others (aware, perhaps, with Gingrich’s love of space) would see this orb more affectionately (as he descends back into Consultant-land) as Newt’s full moon.

Callista does look like a predatory bird in some photographs, apropos considering how she became Newt’s wife. Odd that doesn’t seem to matter to GOP conservatives, women especially.

I’ve spent so much time distracted by the hair sprayed front, I didn’t realize she accomplished a near perfect circle in the back. The heavy white coiffures are a hoot against the two campaign workers with shaved heads.

Shaved heads and tattoos.  Who says men aren’t slaves to fashion.

Is Newt wearing a helmet-like wig?  There’s a clear line separating the white hair at the top from the dark hair at his neckline.  That’s just the opposite of what you usually see.  Compare it to Romney’s white sideburns, for example.

These folks are all business as they make their way through a not particularly friendly crowd.  Only one person is smiling, and he seems to be entertaining a private thought.  The rest of them are rather grim-faced, and one might conclude that Newt and Callista are, too.

Sorta makes me wonder whether Newt’s run for the presidency wasn’t to accommodate the ambitious Callista.  I don’t have a sense of his message or why he’s running except out of a sense of entitlement.  He stooped pretty low to win the South Carolina primary, but that stunt won’t be repeated outside the Deep South.

I haven’t thought about it before this foto.  Apparently, he does wear a toupee.  According to some other websites.
