Police vs. Occupy: Who’s Protecting Whom Against What?

NewImage

You know, you look at these pictures of riot police filming their arrests of Occupy protesters, and it lends the impression that there is some kind of care, order and sanity to the whole dance, rather than just a matter of CYA, especially when there are so many other eyes around. And then on a larger level, the concern and perception that “the authorities” are “operating by the book” is that much more Catch-22 when you consider that these protests are symptomatic of an economic system that has largely lost the capacity for inspection and enforcement.

Following a general strike coordinated by Occupy Oakland that closed the Oakland port on November 2 hundreds are expected to try and shut down all West Coast ports as Occupy movements in Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland, Portland, Seattle and Tacoma have joined the demonstration..)

Is it a stretch to call this protest a modern-day Boston Tea
Party?  It’s interesting that the FIRST
tea party, the ‘culmination of a resistance’ to unfair economic practices, has
been memorialized as a defining moment in US revolutionary history.

What would the British port authorizes have done if they had
seen colonists tipping 342 chests of East India Co. tea into Boston Harbor?

Now seeing this OWS protester surrounded by dark uniforms,
why, it’s almost as if he’s being tarred and feathered.

or he may just be violating the law…you realize police are authorized to use increasing force if protestors are doing something illegal? you can’t just protest whenever and wherever you want just because it’s America, you need a permit and it can’t be on private property
