Newt and The Elephant in the Room

From NYT Pics of the Year:

A great juxtaposition balancing the naturalist painting, the mascot and Newt’s knowing look. It’s as if Gingrich realizes that, despite all the vision and knowledge he has behind him, it’s contaminated by all his foolishness.

And that fact — not lost on the American people — is the true elephant in the room.

You can’t stage something like that.

I find myself unable to care what the context is. It’s just too perfect. :-)

And is that a piece of baggage behind the elephant….I think it is!

  • Ralph

Fake art, fake animal, fake people.  And yes – a little baggage.

  • Peter A. Calvin

Yes, how could you possibly stage a shot like this?  And the painting…a walk through the dark woods into the light?  Referencing his campaign, his life or the country led by the Newt?

I don’t know whether the painting is an original or a reproduction, but it sure draws me past the claustrophobic staging, through the transparent picture plane, and out into a park-like forest and along an easy path into an inviting distance. Guess I’m just a wuss, looking for a romantic escape from this disgusting campaign. :-(

It’s almost like a scene from “Twin Peaks”.  Is David Lynch doing this shoot?

That elephant suit just looks dirty.

  • BooksAlive

Could there be an actor in that costume?

    • Asta

      Which costume?

    The gray elephant costume.

Most GOPers look like old, gray, wrinkled elephants to me.
