Target Michelle (and Carls Jr. Mitt)

Based on the info available, I’ve got to agree with the wingers that Michelle’s supposedly stealth trip to Target was a photo-op. (Feel free to on click the pic and scan around; it’s the jumbo size.)

If you read the WAPO Lifestyle piece, the writer is clearly trying to have it both ways. What tips the balance for me, though, are those tidbits about a.) how Target doesn’t let anybody photograph without permission, b.) the White House isn’t talking, c.) AP photographer Charles Dharapak isn’t talking, and d.) I can’t imagine that Dharapak, and no other DC wire photographer, would have figured out where FLOTUS was going without being tipped.  And then, examining the photo itself, there is the curious point that e.) Michelle seems to be looking right at Charlie (with a little too circumspect an expression).

So, before reading up on this Target business, I also hadn’t heard about the sniping going on by the right-wing over Michelle borrowing all that jewelry the other day, but here’s what I’m sure of. With Obama playing “the millionaire card” in the budget wars and the Wall Street protests taking root, politicians across the spectrum are now falling all over themselves (more than they even were before) to look “all Wal-Mart.”

To come back to the question: was Michelle ducking out to spend an hour as a civilian? Well, for my money, dwindling as it is, I put Romney’s common man schtick with the mall-centric tweets and Michelle’s foray to Tar-jay in the same bucket.

remember this? it happened without a news photographer present. so would it be more believable if the target cashier had tweeted a pic of herself and michele obama mugging at the checkout line?

Or, alternatively, she just wanted to go to Target.

    You’re over-thinking this. Really.

gah, how naive and credulous do the political handlers think we are? this is an insult to our intelligence.

there is a slang used to describe rich people who enjoy the cheap thrill of going to places where the poor live. but in this context, it’s a term loyalists would be offended by. though that’s the word that pops to mind.

mitt has no moral compass, so i don’t expect him to know any better. but michelle…i’m surprised at you for willing to go along with a stunt like this.

what? i’m supposed to think the obamas relate to me better because she shops at a place like target? i’m supposed to change my mind in thinking obama is disconnected and doesn’t relate to the plight of average americans?

i’ll start to think obama has a clue when he wakes up the fact that our one-sided trade deals hurts this country and when he expresses outrage against the continuing outsourcing of jobs overseas.

the internal polling must be terrible for them to resort to stooping to this charade.

The idea that rich people get a cheap thrill from hanging out where the poor live is self-indulgent and spiteful – and wrong. The truly rich, the captains of corporate America, would rather cut off a thumb that rub elbows with Target shoppers.

I also have to take issue with the idea that everything the Obamas do is orchestrated to impress YOU. I don’t think so. Michelle Obama was not always rich and she has appeared in public in the past wearing clothes she purchased at Target. So maybe she just felt like going shopping.

do you really think the first lady, along with her security detail, would go to target for the benefit of one news photographer? not saying that it was a coincidence, but writers get scoops from their sources all the time. a photographer can’t?  if trees fall in the woods and a news photographer isn’t there to photograph it, does that mean trees never fall in the woods?

michelle obama should go to occupywallstreet to see this.

rather than exploiting her celebrity and built in media attention in an attempt to boost her husband’s favor, she should use it to highlight the plight of the unemployed and the working poor.  it’s what eleanor roosevelt did.

my points are not partisan or political but maybe you will understand that this wasn’t so different, was it?

One thing is for sure, Mitt is about 2 years late on the NEW Jalapino Chicken Sandwich. Hell, I’ve been ordering that off menu for the last year or so. … Or at least that is the case in SoCal

Nice adverising attempt. But I think Mitt is favourite for the next year.

Carl’s Jr. ? How cute — the owner is a long time supporter of consvatives and John Birchers. Mitt showing where he belongs …

i was just thinking it would be too bushian for obama to come out and urge people to go shopping, in an attempt to boost the economy. so he sent out michelle in the hopes of sending out a subliminal signal.

last time she wore a j crew outfit, the store had a run on the dress.
