Class Warfare (Top Down)

First of all, Obama’s comeback yesterday morning (“It’s not class warfare, it’s math”) was not just his best soundbite since he’s been in office, and a rare instance of winning the day, but shows — as he apparently told Ron Suskind — that the President is absorbing one of his main takeaways from his first two years, that:

“(T)he symbols and gestures — what people are seeing coming out of this office — are at least as important as the policies we put forward.”

In any case, an art that the right wing has perfected is to take phrases that apply to them, and project them onto the other party. Along those lines, all those focused-grouped impressionable minds out there might not stop to question whether the economic stacked deck in this country, which has led to the gaping and ever-widening gap between rich and, well, everybody else, would be, in a tacit, highly corrosive and “systemically violent” way, “class warfare.”

Which brings us to this photo from the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations currently going on. I’m sure a John Boehner would point to a photo like this, of all those young and disenfranchised Americans marching on the Stock Exchange, as evidence of class warfare (andthe President inciting such). Except that, if you look at the photo and how this plays out, it’s the law lashing out, clearly aligned, balanced, supported by, and in the hands of the suits.

I mean, just ask yourself: who’s been sticking it to who?

After 30 years of catering to the rich, The RICH ARE RICH ENOUGH http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/richenough

There is no such thing as “Rich Enough”.   There is a pathology of Greed, and those afflicted with it are incapable of recognizing the concept of “Enough” of anything.    No matter how much one has, one’s only desire is for “MORE!”

  • bks

He should have said:  “It’s not class warfare, it’s arithmetic.”  Too late now.

Arrested for writing on the sidewalk in chalk…twitter and cell service “interfered with” water not being allowed past a certain point? THAT’S CLASS WARFARE. It’s also a Facist run government running amok over the right to protest making the US look ridiculous next to countries like oh, say, Egypt, Yemen, Behrain, Syria (no we’re in line with Syria actually) and Libya.

Will Obama send Nato out on a mission to preserve OUR RIGHT TO A DEMOCRACY HERE AT HOME?

And as Michael Moore said on Maddow, last night, ” Why aren’t there more people protesting?” Where is everybody?

My friend and I start our cross country trip to support the Revolution today. SIT-IN and STAY PUT. We’re too big to fail and frankly folks, it’s time. So, please…join the movement.

BTW, Bag, thank you for covering this movement. You are now one of 4 very well-hidden media sources (with the exception of Maddow) to show us or inform us about the protest. I would only add that the entire country, well, 98% anyway, feel or should feel disenfranchised. IT’S TIME.

I apologize for my over usage of caps… :) and now the obligatory emoticon as well.

As our economic situation further deteriorates,
expect law enforcement at all levels to be used as
a private Praetorian Guard for the powerful.

Is it my imagination, or are there a number of people trying to physically hold that policeman back?

    There may be hope.

    • Pseudo

No, they were keeping him from going over the barricade and tumbling as the young man pulled away.

As I to say to any winger tool that spouts talking points defending the rich: the Kings and Church used to liked to tell us that we had it oh so well too, until the MAGNA CARTA was forced upon the King by the Unruly Masses, using the knife of labor shortage held to his neck.

    • Rvh3

Actually, the Magna Carta was not in any way for the benefit of the Unruly Masses, being instead written by and forced on King John by the barons — who bore as much resemblance to the Unruly Masses as the Tea Party Express does to an organic uprising by the downtrodden.
