For Score and Seven Eons Ago

Abe Borg hamlincoln 484x800

A reader just got sent this to me and it strikes me as strangely relevant somehow. Here are a few things that spun out of my head. I’m interested to hear what you think.

1. The system is broken?

2. In this manic/”ADD” culture of ours, obsessed with the future and the past, it’s as if — short of a mashup — it’s impossible to be in “the now.”

3. We’re not in Obama’s Lincoln anymore.

I think you nailed it.  The juxtaposition is very striking.

    Thanks for sharing.

Also, could it be that Lincoln was the relentless coldly rational Borg trying, in the War of Northern Aggression (sic) to assimilate the South and its “Way of Life” and “Traditional Domestic Institutions” ? Remember in another context, “intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic” Never underestimate the lengths the TIDOS imagination will go.

I dunno. It seems precisely like “Obama’s Lincoln” to me — a great orator under the compelling influence of some dark and amoral force (the corporate-capitalist hegemony? the military industrial complex?).

Also I see this in the context of Obama’s escalating and proliferating drone wars — “drone Commander-in-Chief”.
