Sluts for Choice

Jewel Samad/AFP-Getty Images

As the GOP, lead mostly by well-off white men, attempts to leverage a potential government shutdown by stripping funds for Planned Parenthood, doesn’t this young woman’s sign nail the subterfuge right on its head?

As we know ( though it typically plays out it in code), the right-wing justification for eliminating funding for abortions comes down, when addressed in general, to morality, and in the specific case, to character. According to this knee-jerk thinking, it is not that a Republican woman, just as likely as a Democratic woman, or a rich woman, as much as a poor woman would find herself in circumstances leading to consideration of this profoundly difficult medical intervention.  In the minds of these holier-than-thou legislators, it is, instead, loose left-wingers or ignorant poor women who have abandoned their moral compass who end up in such circumstances (and need to be taught a lesson).

As I read the cleverness of the sign held aloft by this woman protesting on the National Mall this morning, the message back to the GOP is: If the subtext of your legislative hostage-taking involves branding us as amoral, then let me just say it for you.

…And then, we well know the other side is playing absolute hardball with “the changing face of choice.”

Participants from across the country gathered in a show of support for Planned Parenthood, the family-planning group in the crosshairs of the budget battle blazing in Congress, where a federal shutdown is looming.)

Following the Money: Journalism and the Economic Crisis Plenary

Did the press fail America by cozying up to industry, just while the journalism field itself took a nosedive? This is a great discussion with several key panelists.

Sluts for choice? How can you anyone expect to take you seriously with a name like that?

Ha, thanks Chelsea. I thought it was brilliant.

Ms. Sign, she reminds me of Mercy, from an old flick, The Warriors

Mercy: Friday nights are good. Saturday nights are better.
Swan: I bet you can’t even remember who you get on Friday and Saturday night… you probably don’t remember what they look like…
Mercy: Sometimes I can and sometimes I can’t… who gives a damn?
Swan: Why don’t you just tie a mattress to your back? You don’t care where it is, do you?

Nothing could be further from the truth, at least for me. All the people I know who want to preserve an infant’s life are concerned only for that, saving a life. It is NOT about a moral judgment of the mother and father, merely the recognition that all life is important.

Sluts for Choice! It’s difficult for many others to give your group credence when you degrade yourself with such a “low-life” name. PP should be defunded, just as hundreds and hundreds of other agencies and projects should be sliced, as there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that gives our degenerate Congress the right to steal the fruits of our labor for anything not specified in the U.S. Constitution. Women still have the right to abortion, although they shouldn’t. There was a time that abortion was never allowed and that’s the way it ought to be now. Even in cases of rape, if you get pregnant, you should be required to have your rapist’s baby. Rape would be a horrible way to get pregnant, but carrying a rape or incest child to term is much better than killing it.

When you get $330 million of OUR dollars to spend, you can afford to pay for printed signs and pink uniforms for your hired “demonstrators.” Keep the tax money flowing.

  • Tenika

Holding a sign saying “Sluts For Choice” is not empowering. It’s a great big turnoff to taking them seriously. So are your racist and sexist comments toward men.

  • Tenika

I distinctly remember phrases such as “Keep your laws off of my body.” Will do, if you will keep my wallet out of your vagina. Want the government to keep their laws off of your body? Stop using the people’s tax dollars to fund your “choice.” Until then, both men and women of this nation have a say in the abortion industry. You accept those tax dollars, then accept abortion regulation.

Sluts and whores murdering their own children. Great examples to their children they haven’t murdered.
