Everywhere is War

Or did they get it backwards, and (the way things have been going), the future is war … as well as a source of love and satisfaction to the war economy.

This cover not only highlights the merger of war, technology and geek love, but — underlying that — it speaks to militarism (far from losing its grip as we approach a decade post-9/11) as a foregone conclusion as a dominant cultural force.  Sing praises.

Eureka is the monthly science supplement from The Times (London).

No surprise when we live in a society in self imposed siege.

I forget – weren’t we supposed to not like the Terminators? That’s the very first impression I get from this image. He looks just like a Terminator and is ready to kill all of us Sarahs so that we can not populate the future and threaten their machine utopia.

That’s great when it costs $100k to outfit one soldier who is going to go fight and be killed by a peasant with a pair of sandals and a $200 rifle. They don’t need a $15 million bomber to go a thousand miles to deliver a bomb when they can use a $1500 pickup truck and rope us into going the thousand miles to the bomb they parked by the side of the road.

Perfect load out! The Heckler & Koch 416 takes the 5.56×45mm NATO round and is very accurate, can be fired from water, operates very cleanly thus reducing cleaning time and stoppages, it is an excellent gun; the one in the image is a 14.5inch. Note the PEQ-IR target illuminator on top of the hand-guard, it is used to create a visible line of laser witch can only be seen thru night vision and helps with accurate shooting when the operator is unable to use normal sights. Underneath his helmet he is using a Peltor ComTac Tactical this has the ability to filter loud sounds from moderate sounds (close gun fire from a soldier speaking) it is probably being used with an MBRT radio (cost: $200-$500).

The above give a highly trained and conditioned soldier a tactical edge. True the common terrorist has only an ak47 and a pier of sandals; the soldier above is specially geared for fighting at night and will have a greater advantage over the enemy. When it comes to outfitting and training an army and viewing it from a large perspective it is all based on percentages increased survival rate, increased reaction times, and increased personnel moral and combat effectiveness all in percentages.
