Chelsea Update: Hat Lash

Chelsea Clinton under hat on cover of WWD

Giggles and paparazzi journalism aside, this thoroughly unflattering pic of Chelsea on the cover of WWD (what’s next, the lampshade?) can be seen as push back on the part of a petty and over-entitled media for being kept in the dark over the “big plans.”

WWD’s gotcha, gotcha slideshow, by the way, is even better (I mean, worse).

First glance I thought it was a mannequin. The asymmetrical hat, more behind than in front, covering the face almost completely removes agency. There’s no person there. The hand at the back pushing her forward also removes agency. She’s a faceless dummy being moved from place to place by other people.

Her parents keep mentioning the upcoming wedding while simultaneously keeping the media behind the velvet rope. It looks like a ploy to maximize mileage from the event while behaving as though they really intend to be modest and discreet. It’s hard to tell who the petty and entitled parties are here, really.

Her parents keep mentioning it? Wow – my take is that people keep asking them and they keep not answering. The big story here is that it’s a secret, which seems to pissing the press off in a big way. The Clintons would rather have privacy.

WikiLeaks has to be the conduit for accurate information about our grand adventure in Afghanistan while our vaunted press manifests its snit about a wedding they’ve not been invited to by presenting a frame by frame shot of someone (ostensibly, Chelsea Clinton) entering Vera Wang’s studio? :: I can’t resist. :: What’s wrong with this picture.

Second take. Here comes the bride… with a bag over her head. Ouch. That “revelation” prompted me to recall this.

Chelsea may rather have privacy, but she doesn’t really have that option. This photo also sort of illustrates how silly such a hope really is.

Hey, what can you say? the MSM has descended into fatuousness. Entertainment is news, news is entertainment.
