Thursday Grand Tour: Our Addiction/BP Killing the Prez?/Mr. Solar Installer/Top Kill

Video feed/BP

1. This shot, from Grand Isle, Louisiana, represents a sunset in more ways than one.  It’s our addiction.

(Note, the lack of a brand makes it more about us.)

2. Well, that’s an expression, a juxtaposition and a presumption, isn’t it?

(Notice the similar orientation of the heads, and  how the sun emphasizes Obama’s beak. …Via the NYT “Room for Debate” blog, with debate here.)

3. Might this photo-op actually telegraph the pressure the Administration is feeling from image #2? There’s just something too “hands on” about this.

4. I don’t know about you, but this screen grab — which was everywhere yesterday, creeps me out. The underwater scrawl has the feel of a scene from a B-murder movie.  Like BP, disguised as an oil company, is really a serial killer.

Almost perfect rule of thirds composition.

The concrete piece in the middle (isn’t, but) looks like a diving board. We could walk past the pumps and launch ourselves into (what looks like) a clean lagoon at sunset.

While this does show the petroleum based reality imposing itself on a natural scene the problem is that the image itself is WAY TOO PRETTY. I’d be happier if these pumps were solar-generated hydrogen pumps for fuel cells or something.

While slide shows like this with the multiple images are fun to view, they are harder to comment on. Just FYI.

I’d say, feel free to chose one pic to focus on. Overall though, appreciate the feedback.

I see the sun setting on our way of life.

In context of all that’s happened this century related to oil, it was the first thing that jumped out at me.
