Easy as Pie?

It’s just straight-ahead, retail politics between now and the mid-terms. So, there’s nothing fancy here — just Obama in Iowa, back where it started, dropping in at Mt. Pleasant’s Jerry’s Pizza for an unannounced visit on his, yep, “White House to Main Street” tour.

And no, it’s rhubarb, not apple — maybe, so as not to seem too obvious.

DNCC

The scene offers a stark, and not-accidental contrast with the Wall Street hearings today as well as the new DNC video featuring this “money shot” of Romney, the former leveraged buyout exec doing his all to defend the (other) street.

Update: As called out in the comments, the photo of Obama actually seems less than flattering. Apparently, the visual media is somewhat ambivalent right now in playing along with the staging.

Notice, for example, how AP offers up this photo of WH photographer Pete Souza, in the right corner,  looking for a money shot in the pizza joint.

Also, notice how this AP shot (which the WSJ ran yesterday) exposes the supposed intimacy of Obama walking with this farmer, in contrast to this kind of view.

Stay tuned.

You know, if I were a campaign manager the top photo is one I wouldn’t be happy to see released. This waitress looks as though she is carrying back to the kitchen an inferior piece of pie that Obama has refused. His body language and her expression don’t say anything good about the exchange the photo invites me to imagine they might have had.

The first thing I thought when I saw the picture – ‘Hey! Where ya going with my pie!?’

Yeah..I agree with the first two commenters. I think this photo is a disaster. The president isn’t talking in any positive way with either the waitress or the group of women in the background.

Yes, good points. Thinking about it this morning, seems I was more interested in calling out the spin with a photo that undermined it then playing it up with this shot I was also debating using. …See post update.

Thanks, Michael. Yeah, I’d say ambivalent. At least the two other Pizza joint shots show an upbeat Obama, and the audience doesn’t look cowed. Those two organic farm shots are a real contrast.

“Pete Souza, in the right corner”? Left corner on my screen? Did the image get flipped?

Extreme right, in the shadow. Not the guy on the left with the video camera.
