Earth, You’re Scaring Me

With Earth Day upon us, given this year of earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, and other natural disasters, does it make sense at all to acknowledge — just a little bit more, perhaps — that there is a whole lot about nature we can’t control? Or is that just too much of a blow for the Western ego?

I’m interested in how you read this, and if you associate it more to Hollywood, or the apocalypse, say, than to something that looks like: “Eyjafjallajökull”?

  • Blue Shark

…Takes me back to 1981 and Mt. St. Hellens.

    • Books Alive

Me, too. I keep think of the vial of that dust I bought and have kept in a drawer. Learned of the travel trials of the friends and relatives of my book club member. One, in Egypt, got home easily. Another, stuck in Vienna, took a train to Franfurt and has spent days on end in the airport.

Now, to the PHOTO – I’m shunting it aside as too dramatic, and guessing that it may be someone who has to drive in the ash cloud, like a municipal employee, or other level – a flunky, that is.

  • qotfw

It’s all part of the GOP/christianist plan. They welcome the apocalypse.

    • Wordsmith

Actually it’s a farmer out looking for stray/lost cattle. I saw this among some others at – #23.

I so like that we can’t control nature even if it does scare me at time.
