From the Land of the Poppies

Training Afghan police needle.jpg

Because American troops don’t trust the Afghan police farther than they can throw them (1, 2, 3) and because the Afghan cops are notorious for drug abuse and other nefarious behavior, I found this photo almost hilarious. It’s part of a propaganda photo-op showing US soldiers teaching Afghan police (no, not how to shoot up, but) how to administer EMT techniques.

It’s a shame Afghanistan has to compete so hard with other disasters like the Haiti and Chile earthquakes because the surge pictures get better every day.

Interesting photo to say the least! I have just read another similar article about the neglect of the innocent in Afghanistan, it seems like a war zone elicits less sympathy and news space than natural disasters.

Amazing technique. I’ve never seen an EMT wearing black gloves and lying on a table while working. Is this part of that new “hearts and minds” approach?

How are they supposed to see anything from six feet away?

I had a hard time being cynical about this photo especially after looking at the whole take. I also don’t think it’s fair to compare this photo which was shot in Herat with examples 1, 2,3, which show combat operations in Marja and Helmand and claim it’s illustrative of the whole US – Afghan police relations.
