To Your Health

Boehner McCain health summit.jpg

Obama offered his customary across-the-aisle gestures after marching up to the Blair House without a winter coat. Boehner was ready with his familiar prop, the foot-high stack of health care legislation documents, supposedly demonstrating the Dem plan is “too complicated.” The over-caffeinated McCain had his Irish up.
With the sound off, the overly-hyped health care talking point summit only demonstrated that the Repubs, realizing the Prez has been scoring points off their hostility and oppositionality, learned to mostly confine the snickering to the breaks.

I watched some post summit analysis on MSNBC where all they seemed to mention was how well prepared the GOP were, or how rude Obama was toward McCain. As usual, frustrations galore.

Boehner looks positively giddy – like a boy executing a prep school prank. It’s disturbing to see these two.

I watched some of the summit and I was glad to hear actual work being done to some degree. I thought it was a great event, but Peerless is right — the media just spins it whichever way they are accustomed to spinning and the result is that the meaning is lost.
Screw the damn media. I used to think the news was real, reporters found the facts and nobody could pull too much BS or they’d be spotlighted in the media and that would ensure a return to more proper behavior. Now it’s all gone to hell. I don’t know if it was Fox being an obvious puppet that cracked the integrity of the function of media or if our ADD culture is to blame, but media just doesn’t function anymore.
I hope Obama can keep these open government sessions going. I hope that by election time he can point to what he’s accomplished (especially compared to the 8 year train wreck that was the republican rule) and open the eyes of the public beyond the spin.
