Glen Beck’s Organ. TIME’s Dime.

Glen Beck TIME cover.jpg

Sheesh, and I thought Newsweek was juicing the wackos this week.

TIME is not only in absolute collusion with the radical right in offering up this week-long, national FU to moderates, progressives, and, especially, President Obama (who the literally mad Beck wipes his feet on every chance he gets), it’s also rubbing our faces in the not just contemptuous, but unbroken and lurid exposure to Mr. Beck’s organ.

With so many confused and troubled people being politically exploited right now, TIME has, in effect, gone beyond good sense to pull its own Joe Wilson. Simply put, in that tongue is another flaunting of decorum to incite the crazies.

…And props to Greg Mitchell who eviscerates the article.

God, he’s just so ugly. In every way – temperamentally, intellectually, physically, spiritually. Ugly, through and through.

  • Karen H.

Wow, there’s something really odd about his tongue sticking out like that, likes it’s phallic in a totally inappropriate place. Wonder if they lit him like that on purpose. Does it remind anyone of the lighting that photographer who shoots crying babies and who did the Evil McCain photos used?

  • Tena

God this is a sickening period in our national life. That cover is right there with the Time Man of the Year Stalin cover and the Time Man of the Year Hitler cover. And yes those are real.
It just makes me so goddamned proud.

  • Tena

And now Rush is going to have to up the ante, since Beck is sucking all that oxygen out of the conservative hivemind.

  • gryphon

Frank Schaeffer on Rachels’ show had this to say about some modern Christians like beck and obviously times owners..
‘What we’re really talking about is a group of people are resentful because they know they’ve been left behind by modernity, by science, by education, by art, by literature—the rest of us are getting on with our lives. These people are standing on a hill top waiting for the end and this is a dangerous group of people to have as neighbors’
these are beckoreilylimbaughs fans. they KNOW sumthin aint right and they’re mad as hell about it.. let them pee themselves and have all the temper tantrums they want as their numbers dwindle each year. they aren’t in power and the CRAZY is why.

But look at the 3 story headlines listed above. They contain the words PHOBIA, FEAR, VIRAL, BROKEN, MELTDOWN, and … MASONIC ARDOR. OK, so the last one is a stretch (paranoia? control? cults?) but I rather enjoy seeing all those words above Glenn Beck’s head.

  • Russ Nichols

I think Time has done us all a favor by persuading a really ugly man to demonstrate just how ultra-ugly he can be. Who could be a fan of this hideous media multimillionaire after seeing him doing this F.U. to us all?
To paraphrase Chevy Chase: “Good evening, I’m Glen Beck and you’re not.” Only this time it’s not funny.

  • DennisQ

I’d be more concerned if Glenn Beck represented more than an audience that finds him entertaining. Like Rush Limbaugh or even G. Gordon Liddy, Beck’s stock in trade is being amusing. The rise of right wing entertainers comes as the expense of right wing leadership. Nobody has to take Glenn Beck seriously, and I’ll bet that he makes nothing happen that wasn’t going to happen anyhow.
When is the last time anybody but Media Matters reminded the rest of us how often the right wing entertainers are wrong? This fact by itself suggests that Beck and O’Reilly and Hannity and Limbaugh are essentially street performers. They gather small crowds only because large crowds are passing by. If any of them become more than annoying, we’ll never hear from them again.

  • yg

is that beck? i thought it was serr8d.

  • echo

    I vote phallic.
Appears to have the complete set on his face.
And let me just add : Ewwww !

  • Serr8d

The tongue is an organ of taste, and assists with speech. Glenn Beck can taste the marxism coming off of Barack Hussein Obama, then speak the truth of it to his listeners. Sorry if that inconveniences you.
Oh, and Karen, if you think that’s phallic then you’ve been long deprived. )

  • Ralph

Or, could they be holding up a mirror to show America how crazy and childish it has become?
I thought covers were supposed to entice people to buy the magazine. It will be interesting to know how well this one sells.

  • g

Serr8d’s fixations have caused his imagination to atrophy.

  • Progressive Mom

Honestly, what person with a modicum of sanity or decency would want to pose like this for the cover of a national magazine?
What degree of crazy do you have to be?
(And, Serr8d, regardless of your politics or mine, sticking out the tongue like this is, at best, a very childish pose and not at all evocative of “taste” or “tasting”. Look at yourself in the mirror the next time you, ahem, lick something and see if it looks anything like this photo.)

  • yg

there is an element of self satire in his presentations:

not really sure what it means. is it a sly wink that suggests he doesn’t really believe the insanity he spouts?

  • Rafael

I think your the kind of person who would not find the title of Beck’s latest book “Arguing with Idiots” both redundant and mind-numbing ironic.
You know, a few Poli-Sci courses would help you, if you can understand the course work.

  • Rafael

Ironic that he wears the uniform so well. A true Chekist to the core.

  • Progressive Mom

yg — Wow. I’m not sure what it means either, but it seems to have a vaguely homo-erotic-y tone to it (and this coming from a woman married for 30 years!) with the exaggerated facial expression, the red background and the generic uniform.
I also think the “arguing with idiots” title is more damaging than “mad man”…because the idiot may be the guy in the picture. Or the person purchasing the book.

  • Jody

Phallic, no question. Total glans. Like he’s saying, ‘Suck on this!’ Yuck.

  • Tena

    O ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww – damn I think you’re right.

  • I.M.Shocked

Beck is the monkey to Murdoch’s organ grinder. He’s an amusing diversion for us while our corporate masters rob us blind. This man wouldn’t have 1/10 of the following he has if not for corporate-owned media. I believe the saying is “Famous for being famous.”
This cover reminds me of something I’ve seen before, but I just can’t put my finger on (don’t want to say it was on the tip of my tongue). What was it…oh, that’s right. I mean, Ms. Right.
    Time marches on.

  • thebewilderness

I was puzzled at first by the strangeness of the expression. Took me a minute to recognize who it was. Then I thought WTF? did they photoshop his tongue to look like the head of a penis? Criminy. I haven’t seen the actual cover, and it is less obvious in the image on your site. In the smaller images in some of the sidebar ads for bag it seems extreme.

  • Jody

Another way to look at it is that he’s exposing himself. But without a raincoat.

  • jean

The fact that he is still there after losing a large percentage of major advertisers (see Color of Change), says he is here to stay…for a while. Hasn’t he replaced limburger as head of the republican party? Has limburger had any major magazine covers? Ummm, yes
I don’t know which is worse.

  • james

Congressman Joe Wilson was absolutely right. He told the media his outburst at the president in Congress was because he “let his emotions get the better of” him. And that is the problem.
Beck and the GOP hysterics cannot engage in dialogue or rational argument. They literally cannot control their emotions.

  • Jody

Beck has said that he’s a clown and that he’s doing it for the money. It pays to lose control. The exhibitionist image is in line with that: shock and disgust people for personal satisfaction.

  • Aurora

    Teeny weeny peeny man!

  • Marsupialus

I dumped Time after they put Coulter on the cover and never looked back. This cover only confirms how correct my decision.

  • Johanna

I don’t think the Bag believes for one minute that Time Magazine is in Glen Beck’s corner. Come on. It’s an awful picture.

  • Technomage

This is Time’s second issue in a row playing to the Right Wing. First it was the pulling the plug on grandma issue, now Beck gets his due.
The cover is definitely childish- is that what Time really thinks, or is this cover like Coulter’s cover- meant to show their distorted view of the world by distorting them? Has Ann done much since that cover? Maybe that will bode well for Beck.

  • JoJo

WAKE UP PEOPLE! The cover photo which has you all screaming like a bunch of children being insulted by the class bully. Come on they got your attention and thats what they wanted. Instead of complaining about a photo, why don’t you read what the man has to say and then comment. If you would actually listen to what he has to say you may be very suprised, no make that shocked. But you have to listen and think at the same time!

  • Sandra Tate

Memama and all other commentes that cannot open your minds to what is really going one in our country.
This picture was taken with dishonesty behind Time Magazine and know this the amount of dishonesty in our present Adminstration is dispicable.
The only ugly people out there are the ones that cannot see who they really are and criticize others. Memama and all the other negative people are nothing but stoners that take from the system. TAKERS, not GIVERS.
You all, deserve to lose your freedom, and trust me…you will soon and be shocked are cry. But your tantrums will get you know where. You will just starve.
