Smelling Blood: Health Care Debates and The Picture of Terrorism

Doggett-demonstration.jpg

“If you look at the YouTube video, you can barely see in the edge of that a beautiful marble tombstone with my name on it,” Doggett said. “People that worked so hard to get their signs in full-color did not come to dialogue. They came to be destructive.” (via DDay/Hullabaloo)

I assume many of you saw at least a cropped version of this photo featuring the poster of Congressman Doggett with devil horns.

Searching around, I came across a right wing YouTube site with a larger, wider look at last weekend’s protest. With benefit of the angle, we get a sweeping view of how the wingnuts — exploiting the health care “debate”– are taking to not just demonizing, but terrorizing Congress-people. I’m not just talking about the SS sign to the left, however, and the reality the wackos are feeling no hesitation in framing Democrats as Nazis.

The more troubling expression is the lesser-noticed sign just to the left of the stick holding up the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag. It sports a photo of the Congressman with a red circle around his head and a red “X” canceling out his face. With reports of increasingly tense and confrontational townhall gatherings yesterday (1, 2), these incidents confirm those warning signs that what many of these people are looking for is to draw blood.

I like the Post’s Steven Pearlstein using the label “political terrorists” to describe these unhinged true believers.

Look at the “protestors” – notice the one thing that stands out? Their uniform whiteness.
“Taxes” has become code for “Black President OMG!” Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have worked these people up with their unbelievably violent, racist rhetoric and they’ve scared these old white people to death.
This isn’t going to end well. I’m thoroughly disgusted with the whole thing.

Whenever I see images of these protesters I think of the past eight years distilled to their essence, the nasty heart of the movement that ran the country. It’s repugnant.

How about the Stop Socialism sign with the SS Lightning bolts?

I’m sure the health care industry adores them.
But the stupidity of these people in opposing things they would benefit from still amazes me. I get it, I really do, but — do they really enjoy other people making millions while they and their families suffer from poor medical treatment, lack of insurance, being tied to a job for fear of losing your health insurance, not being able to retire because you won’t be insured, your 20 year olds working for crap wages and no health care on 30 hour a week jobs, etc.?
Seriously, people — wake the hell up.

These people make me sick. The only health insurance I can afford (thanks to my parents) barely covers anything, and they’re out they’re telling me I don’t deserve anything better. I was hoping to get health insurance through my Union (I work at a deli) but my employer laid me off for a month last winter, causing a break in “continuous employment” and forcing me to work another 14 months to qualify.
    I truly hate these people.

The problem with that statement is, SEIO – Union Thugs drew blood first. From a Conservative protester in St. Louis.
That was after Obama’s White House called for his nascent “Civilian National Security Force” (SEIO, ACORN) to “punch back twice as hard” against anyone protesting this farcical Health Care plan he’s backing.
President Bush never encouraged brownshirts to oppose people who dissented. In fact, he pretty much ignored their mouthings (much to their chagrin).
Hillary Clinton said that dissent was the highest form of patriotism. Against any administration.
But when it comes to dissent against Teh One!, Leftists, Progressives and Liberals (who spent 8 years caterwauling against Bush) turn mute.
    The hypocrisy, it burns.

We need a Special Prosecutor to investigate the depth of complicity Obama has to the violence delivered by Union fascist thugs to activist Kenneth Gladney in St. Louis. Thuggish political violence promulgated by the White House, happening within 6 months of Obama’s having taken office.
    Nice start, huh?

All this talk of the Dems as Nazis just seems like so much projection by the teabaggers and their ilk.
