Holding So Far

Ghailani NY.jpg

The significance of the building, and the image?

It’s the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. And, as of yesterday, it holds Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, the first Gitmo prisoner to be transferred to the United States to stand trail on federal charges.

… And, as of last report, the city continues to go about its business.

    Interesting that it looks burnt.

    wet? from the rain?

    Nothing to see here.
Terrorists might be able to cause destruction by brainwashing idiots into blowing themselves up and hiding bombs in roads and whatever.. but they aren’t sophisticated enough to organize a prison break. Let’s face it. He’s locked up. I hope he gets a trial. If he’s a criminal, I hope he gets a sentence – just like any other criminal. But there’s just no need for the fear-mongering. I hope this puts an end to it.

The Metropolitan Correctional Center has held many terrorists, including the blind cleric Rahman, who plotted bomb attacks — never carried out — against New York bridges and tunnels. The security in the area is unbelievable, with metal or stone barriers in front of court and other government buildings, on the theory that they will prevent truck bombs from getting too close. (Due to a public-interest lawsuit, rough concrete barriers were ordered removed. The remaining barriers are more “tasteful.”)
In the photo, the Municipal building is to the left, and at the extreme lower left is the beginning of a guardhouse and a moveable barrier which restrict vehicular traffic. All these barriers were installed post 9/ll and still give the civic center the feel of a place under siege. Believe me, no one is escaping from the federal MCC.

it would be ironic if they ended up getting worse treatment here.

Yes, and they will! And Gasho, you know they are incapable of organizing much in prison? right. It was all “fear mongering” after the 1993 WTC bombings. All fear mongering.
