Power Backlash

Schumer-Boys-Club.jpg

The image on the front page of Sunday’s NYT — accompanying an article on Senator Schumer’s Wall Street cheer- (and other) leading — illustrates a visual surge underway against the American upper-class power elite. (In other words, much of the paper’s target audience.)

But, are they just making a fashion of it?

The corner of the bridge in the upper left of this photo is not the Brooklyn Bridge. You can see metal crossbeams which aren’t visible on the Brooklyn Bridge because it is clad in stone. It looks like the George Washington Bridge to me, and reminds me of the photo by Andreas Feininger. The BB would make sense since Schumer is from Brooklyn, but it isn’t the bridge in the photo.

Schumer is a scumbag and has worked in tandem with Bush Admin figures Chris Cox SEC, Paulson Treasury and Phil Gramm (repeal of Glass Steagall Act). His perfect SAT scores and twin Harvard prove the worth of these two revered measurements of the meritocaracy in America: not much. He is too clever by half and has sold out the American worker for the aggrandizement of his intellectual cohort on Wall Street. If there were justice in this country Schumer would be on trial with the rest of his bankster cronies. The picture of him chumming it up with Bush’s Kaskari makes me want to puke. We are voyeurs at their feet — just before they end the photo op and slam the door in our face to continue their conspiracy to destroy our nation.

    twin Harvard what??? degrees?
I like the mark-up of the photo. It does highlight the image of the power club, with “party” being a matter of small degree at most. While this photo is a boy’s club, it seems that plenty of women aspire to join rather than change it. Some, like Hillary, are members. Don’t get me wrong, everyone should have a chance to join, if such clubs exist.
I’m afraid we have to look beyond identity politics to find progressive people and real “change.”
As Putney Swope said: I’m not going to rock the boat, I’m going to sink the boat!

Dent: Yes, I meant to write: “twin Harvard degrees”.
