Zoriah: Flagging Economy

And, when the euphoria from the Citi bailout wears off?

Ah yes, it always helps to wrap the red, white and blue around it.

This image hits so many discordant notes, it’s difficult to look at. The sheer edifice; The engraved words NYSE superordinate to the flag, both superordinate to the person wielding a broom on the street. Doesn’t that just say it all.

    Details, details, details…
I think the tightly wrapped/stretched flag makes a nice statement as well.

Not quite. There is also the pediment:
Integrity protecting the works of man
    ironic, no?

of course, the bigger the flag, the bigger the patriot. whose been a bigger economic patriot than wall street? wall street always puts country first. USA! USA!

That is the most vertigo-inducing photo I’ve seen in awhile… almost induces a sense of FREE FALL.

There’s middle America, cleaning up after the Whiz Kids of Wall Street.

Strange, the shadows seem to hook onto the second story balconies, pulling the building down to earth and the sweeper. Supports the “last refuge of scoundrels” concept.

  • bystander

Yes, JayDenver, yes indeed. The photograph would serve as a good backdrop for this post by Robert Reich, in which he writes:

    Citigroup Scores
If you had any doubt at all about the primacy of Wall Street over Main Street; the utter lack of transparency behind the biggest government giveaway in history to financial executives, and their shareholders, directors, and creditors; and the intimate connections the lie between Administrations — both Republican and Democratic — and the heavyweights on Wall Street, your doubts should be laid to rest

    Wow, that’s a powerful photo.
