Campaign ‘08 Final Weekend 2: Goblin For Attention

Piper Halloween.JPG

With the official Halloween politicking over, Palin took her daughter Piper trick-or-treating in Dauphin. Piper dressed as a snow princess. On the campaign plane and at a rally, Palin’s infant son, Trig, was costumed as an elephant. — LAT

Official politicking over?!?

Funny how Obama and his daughter couldn’t catch a moment of peace on Halloween night (among family, friends and their children’s friends in their own neighborhood), while the attention-thirsty Palin clan, exploiting their kids yet again, converted even the trick-or-treat ritual into a photo op. Notice, by the way, how both Mom and First Dude are completely oblivious to their snow princess as they fixate on the attention of this resident.

    That’s a silly caption, isn’t it?
I realize now that the costume for Trig really is an elephant, but it immediately brought to mind Dumbo, which seemed amazingly insensitive, and yet right in tune with the generally shallow thinking his mother displays.

In every photo I have seen of Sarah Palin and her son Trig, I have yet to see her looking at the baby, engaging with him in any way, other than as (what appears to me) a “prop.” I have seen several photos of the Obamas interacting warmly with their girls. Has anyone seen any photos where Trig (or any of the Palin children) have their parents’ full attention?

I’m struck by the way little baby Propp is always held like a sack of potatoes. Or a football, about to be handed off as soon as the lights and lenses point elsewhere.

And in my neighborhood a woman withheld candy from children whose parents were voting for Obama. How sick can you get.

Well, the ELEPHANT is the GOP symbol, or am I just stating the obvious? And Dumbo is a good name to associate with a political party that depends on uninformed voters for its success. Take it far enough, of course, and Disney’s Dumbo learned that he could fly by flapping its ears. But then, I will believe in the Republican agenda just as soon as I see an elephant fly.
However, the Palins just couldn’t resist the opportunity to politicize their little darling infant by dressing it up as a Republican elephant. Yuck.

Some of the saddest images I have seen this campaign are the images of little Piper Palin, gamely soldiering on, caring for the baby, trotting out to please Mom, her little face closed and solid, and – most of the time – no one paying attention to her.
I wish this little girl a bright future. I imagine her future will find her pursuing interests far removed from those of her Mother.

I initially read that last sentence as “Palin’s infant son, Trig, was consumed by an elephant.
Well, I’ll just go ahead and put the pipe down then.

I’m with “ginny”. Sarah always holds that poor kid like he’s a sack of potatoes instead of her wonderful “special needs kid”. I’m not being sexist when I say that small children need their mother. She claims she’s infuriated when people ask her how she can do this…because men are never asked that question. But let’s get real…her “super conservative” values should certainly tell her that children need mommy far more than daddy….but that’s just my opinion. Doesn’t look like these kids have either one

I’m to the point with poor Trig that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if after the election it comes out that she was never pregnant and Trig was just a life-sized toy used as a political prop. Which of course pretty much describes him in the eyes of his parents. And yes, they do seem to hold him like a sack of potatoes, like he’s a burden rather than a treasure. I didn’t get all the warm fuzzy hugs & kisses from my parents but at least they weren’t sociopathic narcissists, if that’s not redundant.

What the hell is wrong with you people? They are a family. Their kid wanted to go trick or treating so they stopped the bus and took her trick or treating. What is wrong with that? Criticizing every single thing the Palins do is just pathetic. How dare the parents talk to the resident! What are they to do? Ignore the people so that nobody will read anything into it? Maybe they’re just friendly. Isn’t it funny how people who would probably say they’re for equal rights for women have all kinds of opinions about how Sarah Palin should raise her kids? What a bunch of hypocrites! Apparently equal rights are only for liberal, Democrat women. By the way, if you think Obama is qualified to be president of the United States, Sarah Palin’s qualifications should not be any kind of an issue for you. She’s not even running for president and she has more executive experience than Obama. Obama’s biggest accomplishment so far is campaigning for president. That’s all he’s done for two years. Is he still collecting a paycheck for being a Senator? Seems like a bit of a rip off, doesn’t it? You Obama supporters just prove that one should never underestimate the stupidity of the American public. “I’m voting for Obama because I think change is really, really good.” Give me a break. Unfortunately, we will all have to pay because your vote is based on your “feelings” rather than what is really best for our country.
