The Spitzers

12Spitzer 600

With the news that Ms. Wall Spitzer has been insistent that her husband not resign, we are reminded that people and relationships are famous for defying conventional logic. Starting from there, I find this photo accompanying a profile of the governor’s wife to be a beautiful portrait involving a radiant woman and a strange and powerful looking man.

What the NYT article says, exactly, is that: “she has even, at times, been able to take the edge off his abrasive style.”  The way it reformulated in my head, however, after looking at this image, is that: Silda Wall Spitzer has been able to somewhat smooth her husband’s rough edges.

I’m interested in what you see in this.

I guess Ichabod Crane was also “strange and powerful” according to your analysis.

Looks like an ED ad. Guess we’re talking a different sort of dysfunction here. If symptoms persist more than four hours consult your physician and your banker.

She is pretty damn hot for a woman her (and my) age. I approve.

Though they’re both smiling at each other in adoration, he looks a bit like a gargoyle – protruding chin and nose, receding hair. Beauty and the beast?

an *adoration* photo, further elevating Eliot Spitzer into *Greek Tragedy* status, for friends and supporters.

Strange looking and strange man. I pity the hooker that had to service this jerk.
The wife has made her compromises just as Hillary Clinton has. No pity for the husband or the wife in cases like these.
Probably this good wifey, the team player, is wondering what all the kerfluffle is about.

I don’t know about “strange” He reminds me of Chris Meloni in Law and Order, only with a juttier chin. Anyway, the passion and dedication of someone who wants to do good can make for a very attractive human being. Yes, he failed. Yes, he was a dunderhead who should have known better. Yes, he was a human being. It’s a tragic situation, not the least for his family. I’m not going to sit in judgment when the hammer of the gods has already come down so hard on them all.

A powerful man brought low by his “little head.” Not for us to say what Ms. Spitzer should do. On the face of it the picture is that of a loving couple. He ain’t no adonis, but he certainly had admirable qualities (risk taker?). Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Self-righteous prosecutor felled by $80,000 hooker fees.
Self-righteous loosing candidate claiming wins in spite of losing numbers.
No Greek tragedies here. folks. Simply flawed narcissists determined to have it their way no matter who gets injured by the flying flak.
So why should we be surprised to find the republicans behind each?
Contributing to the first is the thoroughly politicized justice department.
Behind the second the reportedly 24% republican cross-over ditto-heads.
    And something about both stinks!

imho, the pervert’s story, itself ~ does not become perverse until the media celebritize the prostitute, herself : as a tragic, post-modern “heroine“.

A lot of self-righteousness from the commenters here and the larger community as well.
Has anybody considered that Mrs Spitzer might be sexually dysfunctional herself, and Mr Spitzer’s peccadilloes might be part of their marriage arrangement?
Unless he’s beating her, it’s none of anybody’s damn business what goes on in a marriage.

  • lytom

By now the media is preoccupied with the “heroine” herself…How normal.
Media stops short! The question is why only one name has surfaced?
Why are not all names involved uncovered and published in this land of puritanism and hypocrisy!?
It is too quiet, as usual, when it comes to wire tapping, phone and email surveillance. The spying by the “good” of the government agents on all of the land’s citizens is going on and on.
But then, why should I be so surprised! The country that has approved torture, Guantanamo existence, illegal war, lies, should deserve no better!

Cactus, in case you missed this article ~
The $200 billion bail-out for predator banks and Spitzer charges are intimately linked.
This week, Bernanke’s Fed, for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks’ mortgage-backed junk bonds. The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall to the very banking predators who have brought two million families to the brink of foreclosure.
Up until Wednesday, there was one single, lonely politician who stood in the way of this creepy little assignation at the bankers’ bordello: Eliot Spitzer.
Who are they kidding? Spitzer’s lynching and the bankers’ enriching are intimately tied.
    How? Follow the money.
