Karl’s Handiwork Of The Week

Bush-Rockey

Image and caption from Friday’s White House photo gallery….

President George W. Bush and Rockey Vaccarella of New Orleans walk to the Oval Office after delivering a joint statement to the press on the South Lawn Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006. Vaccarella, who lost his home in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, drove to Washington, D.C., with the hopes of speaking directly with President Bush. White House photo by Paul Morse.

BAGnewsNotes Revised caption (with suggested links):

White House photographer highlights press coverage of a snickering President George W. Bush and  former parish council GOP candidate (but supposed God-fearing nobody), Rockey Vaccarella, after delivering a joint statement to the press on the South Lawn Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006. Vaccarella afforded the President face time with somebody who lost his home in the wake of Hurricane Katrina just prior to a White House Katrina anniversary PR blitz. The wonderfully-named Rockey drove all the way to Washington D.C. in what was widely reported as a FEMA trailer with some story line about hoping to speak directly with the President (proving that Mr. Bush will meet with just about anyone who wishes to speak to him during the late August news vacuum).  White House photo by Paul Morse.

Gotta admit – the propaganda is pretty good, but that doesn’t mean we should believe it.
    Thanks for doing your part!

Yesterday, we discussed the Economist’s question, “Who killed the Newspaper,” and today we encounter this, exhibit A.
Your rewording is 100% correct. Perhaps if newspapers had been telling the truth instead of passing off partisan propaganda as news, perhaps the Economist would not need to ask yesterday’s question.
As for the picture itself, Bush looks exhausted. Rocky excited and full of it. And in the background, the ubiquitous photographers. It is no wonder that the WH thinks wiretapping and survellience is okay. They have identified the media as their liberal enemy, and the fishbowl, these photo ops, is their battleground. He who controls the images, controls the minds of the electorate.

If there’s any doubt whether Mr Vaccarella’s trailer is a FEMA trailer they could test its interior space for formaldehyde. Concentrations nearly equal to what a professional embalmer would be exposed to on the job have been found in real FEMA trailers.
Formaldehyde and 10,000 trailers in Hope AR stranded because of flood plain restrictions are tacit evidence of a disaster management agency totally unprepared for disaster. Maybe a few less photographers covering a stage-managed non-event would shake loose the resources to follow up on the whereabouts of prepositioned food and medical supplies when Katrina made landfall.
Last fall the Decider put Karl Rove in charge of the Gulf Reconstruction. Behold the fruits of that bold decision.

    Rocky and Bushwinkle?

“Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son in the wake of Operation Iraqi Freedom, drove to Crawford, Texas, with the hopes of speaking directly with President Bush.”

Rockey looks excited, by his arm movement it looks almost like he’s skipping.
The blue and black combo, they’re both wearing the same colors. Blue is water. Who dresses these guys?
Diggin’ the action of the center photographer, “oh, I must rush to get a butt shot of this important meeting.”
Is that photographer there to be photographed or to get a shot? Both, I suppose.
Bush is cracking up. Perhaps Rockey was skipping so hard he farted.

Every Katrina Disaster Area FEMA supplied travel trailer is equipped with a hidden GPS locator which will trigger an alarm when the trailer is moved more than twenty feet from its installed location. Additionally, it is illegal to move a FEMA trailer once it is installed at a disaster victim’m authorized location.
I know because I live in one.

    Well, son of a bitch.
Thanks for the update, Aaron! Now, who’s gonna inform the White House????

  • Mad_nVT

In BagMan’s link of Bush with God-fearing “stranger”, Bush looks a little bit too much like the Joker in Batman.
Which brings to mind a sloppy paraphrase of a famous Bush misquote– “Fooled you once,,, uhh. . . . fooled you twice. . . . . . huh, fooled you again.”
And finally, while the Bush team prepares to celebrate the Katrina anniversary, they are probably thinking about Tropical Storm Ernesto, projected to turn in to a hurricane on Monday, and aimed for landfall in New Orleans on Friday, September 1.

    Jefe: very good! LOL
Aaron and momly: Note TheBag’s link to a photo of the door of Rockey’s trailer whereon he has printed “Rockey’s HONORARY FEMA trailer.” Also, it looks like a fifth-wheel, not the mobile-home type that FEMA uses. But I wonder what he used to haul it to DC?
Did you all see Jon Stewart Thursday nite? His take was priceless. For those who didn’t, here’s the link: http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/player.jhtml?ml_video=73502&ml_collection=&ml_gateway=&ml_gateway_id=&ml_comedian=
&ml_runtime=&ml_context=show&ml_origin_url=%2Fshows%2Fthe_daily_show%2Findex.jhtml&ml_playlist=&lnk=&is_large=true. You may have to cut and paste this one. JIC the url doesn’t come thru, go to http://www.comedycentral.com and follow the video link to that show. It’s titled ‘Rocky trailer picture show.’
Bush is laughing because this is what he’s thinking: “That crazy Cindy is in the hospital, I’ll give her something to laugh about.”

It sounded bogus from the beginning. I liked the showdown betweem Rocky and the guy that told Chennye to F___ off! during Friday’s Hardball. It was refreshing to say the least.

  • limapup

W: “Great job Rockey! The moment any WH position becomes available – it’s yours!!!”
R: “You are the best preznit ever! Thank you, sir. Can I be Secretary of State next?”
W: “Of course. It’s your due – as Dick would say!”

  • Mad_nVT

Where did they find this guy?
He is meeting the Leader of the Free World, the Emperor of the Universe. How come he can’t put on a tie? Did Uncle Karl take away his tie.
Does this have to do with making the Bush connection with the working man, the Everyman?
Dear Leader looks comparatively tall and trim. Is this a coincidence?
Rockey looks like a fireman, is this a coincidence? He’s got a name like Rockey, is this a coincidence?
How does Karl find these guys, and not get caught in the act of creating the fraudulent news?

Why is the POTUS walking a half-step behind a candidate for parish councilor? Is Bush alpha to no one?

  • http://ruinsofempire.blogspot.com/ Rafael

I think Rocky didn’t get the memo. Bush does not walk locktep with you, you walk in his lockstep. Just watch Blair.
