Congratulations

The BAG congratulates The Huffington Post as winner of The ‘06 Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Political Blog.  In less than a year, HuffPo has burst out of the gate, done almost everything right, and has had a substantial impact in the political and new media sphere.

Of course, I’m proud to have been a finalist alongside Arianna, and I am now even more proud of my regular feature — “Reading The Pictures” — on the Huffington Post blog.

If you’ll indulge me, its been quite a ride the past month or so.  I’m completely indebted to family and friends, and especially to The BAG readership — a thoughtful, insightful and growing community which has been thoroughly supportive of, and completely intrinsic to this mission.

You and I have also come a long way in a short time.  Many people in media, government, advocacy and academia are tracking The BAG.  As a collective, we are having a definite impact on the appreciation, understanding and even use of political images.  Accolades are nice, but that’s what I call really winning.

I WANTED TO TAKE THIS OCCASION TO THANK YOU FOR A CONSISTENTLY OUTSTANDING SITE. MOST OF THE TIME I’M JUST LEARNING, SO FORGET TO SAY HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK AND THE FOLKS YOU ATTRACT HERE. WEBBY SHOULD HAVE A NEW CATEGORY FOR “IMAGE TALK” OR SOME SUCH. THANKS AGAIN. TMA

Congratulations on carving out a unique and creative niche in the blogitude. I check your blog out at least twice a day.

by the way, how do you prefer linking? I permalinked to you in a Daily Kos open thread, then copied the photo and used tiny pic but still mentioned your analysis. I’m unsure of the etiquette….

Karen, that convention sounds right. Much appreciated!

Hats off to BAG for your acknowleged excellent work. An award is always great to get, but not necessary for defining your unique contribution. Nobody in blogistan realized there was a value in analyzing image alone until you started doing it. Now that’s creative. Your growth from wrinkly bag to sophisticated image has been great to follow, and of personal value to me and the rest of us “visual people” (and apparently the rest of the sphere).

Congratulations, I personally feel that this is the #1 blogspot on the net, in my never to be humble opinion.
You attract an incredibly intelligent batch of commentors, unlike Huffpo. I love reading Huffpo, but you really have to hold your nose sometimes.
Thanks for the truly great contribution to dialogue.

Okay, so HuffPo has all the star power. One can’t expect an indie art film to compete for an Oscar with a star vehicle disaster block-buster. But I’ll take the indie over the block-buster any day. And, Michael, you have a foot in both camps and do each well. Like the PR guys say, any notice is good notice.

I can’t add much… just to say that I check this blog at least once a day and appreciate all the effort you put into this. And I enjoy the community here; I learn a lot, and even if there are disagreements, they’re mostly respectful.
