Cheney behind bars — now *that’s* some inaccessibility I can get into!

    What a story!!! Incredible!

  • Hauksdottir

That last shot with the multiple fences and grills is just wonderful.
The above-the-law attitude of the current Administration is most dispicable. Any of us would have had to answer to local law enforcement. The scene would have been inspected, measured, analyzed. ALL people present would have had their names and statements taken down. And, of course, the blood alcohol levels of all witnesses would be factored into their reliability. Instead, he is allowed to lie and delay and his minions are allowed to coach and conspire.
Hunters do not turn and shoot behind them, even when following released prey. They have a 180 degree clear field in front of them… that’s why these bird hunters stand in a line. And why you are SUPPOSED to approach from the back.
Has anybody questioned the guide? I knew that there had to be somebody handling the dogs, but apparently he was an outrider, on horseback. Surely he should have known where ALL the parties were and what trajectory they were taking! He supposedly was between Dickeybird and the Swiss Miss… if the quail were flushed and Dickeybird is turning to shoot, would not the guide have turned that way as well? And if the ambassador had done the same as Cheney, following the quail behind her, she’d have “peppered” the guide, the horse, and the VP. There is a reason for protocols.
And what about the SS, who ought to have been watching all the guys with guns, given the nature of their job. They were probably drinking the Dr Pepper. If the lawyer had tripped and shot Cheney in the back… what sort of excuse would they give?
Was this just a simple accident?
    I doubt it.
Besides the disasterous mixture of alcohol and meds, we have to take into account that he is extremely paranoid. Sorry, Michael, this is your field… but a layperson can add up the secrecy, the isolation (the cocoon within cocoon when he travels), the guardedness, the shielded bunker built under the VP’s residence. He thinks someone is out to get him personally. As hated as he is, he may be right.
Why would an avid hunter forgo decades of reflex and training? He probably did hear the victim come up from behind, wheeled, and shot… out of paranoia. From the spread of the shot, and impact (it downed a full-sized man and penetrated vital organs) the victim was well within 30 feet (more like 15-20). He was also likely slightly lower than the flatland (dried-up vernal pool), so Cheney would have been shooting down, not up at flying birds. When hunting with dogs, one never shoots down. Shoot somebody’s dog and you don’t get invited back.
There were too many people around for Cheney to control this, and too much information starting to seep out. He will not be eased out of office, though. Power corrupts absolutely.

Association: (alcohol, elderly men, fun, gun, shooting, various tales, hunting experience and skill of Dick) came this ditty commonly heard from the back row boys in Mr. Pierpoint’s Grade 8 English class, circa 1948.
    Now stand me a drink
    and let me think
and a story to you I’ll tell
    ………………
    ………………
    .. I’ve forgotten)
    when men grow old
    and their balls turn cold
and the ends of their knobs turn blue
    they’ll look back on life
    on the struggle and strife
and can tell you a tale or two
    when Dead Eyed Dick
    and Mexican Pete
are out in search of fun
    its Dead Eyed Dick
    who wields the prick
    and Mexican Pete the gun
    a poor rewrite..help !
    for a better rendition.
    when Republican Harry
    and Dead Eyed Dick
are out in search of fun
    its Republican Harry
    whose felled because he tarries
by Dead Eyed Dick the gun.

It’s disappointing not to see his shoes, now.

  • http://profile.typekey.com/aog/ Annoying Old Guy

Hauksdottir demonstrates why, even when there is a real issue, the Modern American Left is incapable of capitalizing on it. It is not enough to deal with the facts of the case, wild unsupported claims must be added so that when they are debunked, the entire issue looks put up. Let’s enumerate, shall we?

    1. Any of us would have had to answer to local law enforcement
Local law enforcement was notified promptly.
    2. Instead, he is allowed to lie and delay
Can you cite a single example of either? There was no delay in notifying the local law enforcement and the Secret Service was on the scene.
    3. Hunters do not turn and shoot behind them
Again, any evidence of that? Every report I’ve read has the shot to the side, not behind.
    4. And what about the SS, who ought to have been watching all the guys with guns, given the nature of their job. They were probably drinking the Dr Pepper.
      Your evidence for that is…?
    5. Besides the disasterous mixture of alcohol and meds
Few indeed will consider a single beer in that light.
    6. we have to take into account that he is extremely paranoid[…]He thinks someone is out to get him personally
Even if this armchair psychoanalysis was correct, why would Cheney shoot his friend?
    7. From the spread of the shot, and impact (it downed a full-sized man and penetrated vital organs) the victim was well within 30 feet (more like 15-20)
Every report says “30 yards“. Nor did the shot penetrate vital organs – it penetrated the skin and blood flow took the pellet to the heart.

My question is, do you really think that this kind of exaggeration will make most people take it more seriously or tune out from the partisan hysteria?

I have to agree with AOG. (!)
I don’t think it makes sense to try to say this was not an accident. And, if Dick’s that crazy he’ll be out soon enough…
It’s so easy to talk about the bad things we know he has done. No need to speculate.

AOG is talking like an annoying old republican.
    1. Local law enforcement may have been notified, but they didn’t talk TO CHENEY till the next day.
    2. See above. Also the right assumes he’s telling the truth, the left assumes he’s lying. Also the sheriff stated to reporters that he was prevented from talking to Cheney by the SS.
    3. Point taken.
    4. A reasonable assumption is they weren’t drinking alcohol since I’d be willing to bet if they did they would be fired.
    5. We only have Cheney saying he had one beer (but he’s had two DUI’s) and the ranch owner saying nobody had beer, then maybe they did, then they didn’t…..? Ranch owner also said they were 100-150 yards away in tall grass and thick brush (then how could she see them?). The top photo looks a lot like the open nothingness I remember Texas to be…flat, dry, sans much flora.
    6. Aside from the armchair psychology, Cheney specifically corrected Hume that Whittington was an “acquaintance,” as opposed to a friend.
    7. The first report was “50 yards” which didn’t pass the smell test and it’s been changed a few time since. As for the shot, the doctor said it lodged near the heart and later moved closer to the heart because there was no scar tissue hardening to stop it. It was not in the vessel. In fact, .28 shot is too large to pass thru the blood vessels, according to hunters.

I don’t know what the “red fencing” is on photos 3 & 4, but it is extremely annoying. If it was photoshopped in, it’s a bit heavy handed. As for photos 2 & 5, keeping Cheney behind bars…..what a metaphor! In the second one, he seems to be hunching over, as if he wanted to slither down into his coat and disappear.
In the last photo, the only spot of color is his pink face. The multi fencing set off by the white wall in the background. Fences going in all directions. Are the fences keeping his enemies out or keeping him in a prison? Perhaps a prison of his own making. Or perhaps the fencing is suggestive of the confusion surrounding him these past few days. One slip and he could be impaled.

  • jt from BC

CACTUS, I think the BAG put the red fencing in to add continuity to the other 3 natural fenced photos. But I can’t tell photo shopped from buckshot, so its just speculation, an answer I suspect will soon be forth coming.

AOG, I don’t think this is a partisan issue. All us liberals are just sitting back with our fancy coffee drinks and watching things unfold. It’s an amazing event with a lot of questions yet to be asked or answered.
A single beer in the afternoon sun makes me very sleepy. Cheney should have been napping after lunch, he’s not a young man anymore. And what’s up with him having dinner instead of going to the hospital to be with his “friend” that he just shot? It’s like a real life Sienfeld episode, actually it’s so dark it’s more like Curb Your Enthusiasm.
“Hmm, just shot my friend, he’s covered in blood, not responding … what’s for dinner?”

    AOG,
The reason Hauksdottir is speculating is because we know very little about what happened. Sticking to verifiable fact our collective knowledge of the Cheney shooting incident is this: sometime after 5:30pm last Saturday Vice President Cheney shot a fellow quail hunter in the face, neck, and torso. The victim was treated at the site by a medical team traveling with the Vice President, taken by ambulance to a non-trauma medical facility in Kingsville TX, then med-evac’ed by helicopter to a trauma center in Corpus Christi. He is still in the ICU there.
A lot of the early news coverage was based on statements by the owner of the property. Subsequently we find out she was 100-150 yards away when her guest was shot and she didn’t actually see it happen.
In the absence of fact is it possible to know anything about what happened?
Let’s assume this is an innocent accident – ill fortune and bad timing improbably team up, people get hurt. By far the best way to handle an innocent accident, for everyone involved, is to get the authorities in, establish exactly what happened; when, where, how, and why. The facts, established by trained objective observers, tell us exactly what happened: ill fortune. We move on.
One of the few things we know about the Cheney Shooting Incident is they chose not to bring in the authorities. A deputy was turned away from the ranch last Saturday night.
    Innocently turned away?

  • http://www.woodka.com d

Yeah, we have to know every last detail of what happened with Clinton’s cock, but it’s not important to know exactly how Cheney happened to shoot Whittington in the face.
    Right, AOG.

Well if you read what McClellan said at the WH, HE didn’t know that, he knew that someone in the shooting party had shot someone.
Blondesense blog has a theory about the finger on the trigger.

…..and now it turns out that Whittington said in his news conference today, that it happened on Friday!!
