An Almost Religious Love Of Political Sport

Wh-Winterolympicslogo Copy

Maybe it has something to do with all the recent talk of cartoons.  It could also stem from a desire to shift gears a bit after posting more provocative imagery.  Or, it could just be the fact the Winter Olympics opened last night and I noticed Laura Bush in attendance.  In any case, I started thinking that this site has gotten very serious lately; many of you have probably never seen “the real BAG”; and I fondly recall making light of BushCo in my illustrated way during the Summer Games two years ago (example 1, 2, 3).

So, I’m just giving you a heads up that I’m “unfolding” BAGnews this week in honor of the Winter Games.  Before doing so, however, it seemed appropriate to “brand” the occasion first.  (I mean, that’s how Rove does it, right?)

(…With apologies to the designer of the Turin ‘06 logo.)

Good to see that the White House Olympic Committee has used Christian Crosses in place of the tacky rhinestone diamonds that the Italians used.
However, it is surprising that they didn’t use some $ $ $ symbols mixed in with the Crosses, since the two symbols so accurately represent the Bush Administration.
Perhaps it would have also been more appropriate if the color could have been taken out of the logo, since this really is a black and white world. It’s the whole “your either with us or your agin’ us” kind of mentality. Black and white– and we are the white guys with the white hats.
And finally I hope that the White House Olympic Committee will tout their effort with photos of President Bush during his daily two-hour work-outs. That would be true Shock and Awe.

I didn’t even realize the Winter Games were starting up until I saw the rings on the Diet Coke cans in the refigerator.

They look more like airplanes, fighters, flying off into the wild blue yonder…..

I took them to be airplanes, too, until I noticed the “religious” in the title.

Thanks for those links to the “bags” from the last Olympics. I came to this site after the “bags”, I guess.

I guess that you have to get to the shooting events early in this round of descriptions — isn’t there a skiing + shooting event that Cheney could go for?

  • Hauksdottir

Given Cheney’s gout, his weight, and his heart (I simply disbelieve Armstrong’s claim that he *ran* to the victim and got there first) and his love of canned hunts, I think he’d be in one of the lifts taking aim at skiers on a shalom run or the guys lieing down on the luges. It wouldn’t be a sport if they could wander off course and have a chance of getting away, would it?
Hmmm… winter sports… “skating outside the law”? “Go for the gold-en parachute”? Some sort of “free-style” event for the fashion unconcious? And, of course, “the snow job”!

Looks like the crosses in a battlefield cemetary.
