In the Meantime

I will be off for a few days, and will return by Wednesday.  (While away, I have some really interesting shots I’ll be trying to crack open for you.)

In the meantime, whether you’ve just fallen into the BAG or have been comfortably inside for some time, I would be interested in any reflections you have as to how I could improve or expand the site.  Any feedback/critique about the structure or content of BnN is welcome, as well as anything else you might like me to add or take on.

Again, thanks to the growing legion of BAG readers and “co-analysts.”  The quality of comments and reactions you have generated continues to educate, surprise and motivate me to raise my commentary and offer you more.  Besides generating political solidarity, I view the BAG as an opportunity for all of us — collectively — to deepen our visual awareness and sophistication.  As well as have a little fun.

(By the way, I’ve temporarily increased the number of posts viewable on this home page for the sake of a “broader menu” of conversation.)

I came to your site a week ago through an ad-link on “Informed Comment”.
I have found it to be one of the most interesting sites I have found on the web. I think your way of approaching current events and ideas through pictures is a stroke of genius.
I also like reading other’s insights in the comments. Please keep it up.
I think you are up there in the top 5 blogs for intelligence, focus and insight.

    If I may suggest:

    • Your news photographs and editorial illustrations are very well chosen. How about more advertising images, charts, and infographics?
    • If available, post a link to each online image you put up so we can see its original context. If you use a hardcopy image from a newspaper or magazine, please give the date of publication and its section/page number (the caption text wouldn’t hurt, either.)
    • True propaganda is no respecter of persons or positions. Be non-partisan once in a while and show more examples from all sides.
    • If possible, at the end of each comment, place the dashed horizontal break after the final “Posted by:” line. The current layout makes comment authorship a little confusing.
    • Perhaps I’ve missed it, but is there an FAQ explaining what HTML tags we can use in comments?
    • It might be nice if we could post small inline images within our comments (as opposed to just posting a link to an image.) OTOH, things could get cluttered: the image up for discussion should be the primary pictorial focus.

Thanks for the thoughtful blog, BAG.
P.S. — Is there such a thing as “political solidarity“? Should there be?

I came to this blog through another one (also under typepad) 2 journalists regularly update (http://usa.blogs.liberation.fr/). You’re doing an excellent job, keep it up.
Do you reckon it would be possible to add a search engine?

I just noticed you elongated the number of posts viewable on the homepage. Since some of your analyses get pretty long, maybe you should just include one or two paragraphs on the homepage and then a (Read More) link to this page, so more images can fit on the homepage. People who are especially interested in one post can click through to read the entire thing. Just a thought.
An example of a blog that does this is powerpage.org

    “nevermind the first amendment
the secret service showed up at an art exhibit at columbia college, demanding the contact info for all the artists. the exhibit is called “axis of evil: the secret history of sin” and features fake postage stamps by 47 different artists. apparently one “stamp” shows dubya face with a revolver pointed at it & the words “patriot act.” another features john ashcroft’s face fashioned from images of naked bodies at abu ghraib. is it art? that’s certainly not a question i’m comfortable with the secret service answering.”
I found the above journal entry whilst perusing the interet with the link below: http://www.badpressbooks.com/sin.html
    Just thought you’d be interested…

Agitprop requests your suggestions for the Presidential iPod Commission. It’s your patriotic duty to serve America by giving the President good music!

    Pascal,
if you want a makeshift bagnews search engine, go to google and type in YOUR SEARCH QUERY site:http://bagnewsnotes.typepad.com and it will only search the bagnews site for what you’re looking for
I’m sure there is a way to script this so a search box will automatically add site:http://bagnewsnotes.typepad.com to any query, but that may take a bit of coding. But it’s something to look into.

    I love your site.
Please don’t change it too much. It’s very attractive, easy to read and the pages load quickly on my crummy dialup modem.
I like that the images are scanned from printed pieces, though a link to an online source of the story may be helpful.
    Thanks.
